Facts in brief

The Weir House is situated in the village of Ulapane – nestled in a valley in the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. The landscape is an undulating tapestry of pine covered hillsides, indigenous forests, spice groves and tea plantations. The region was once part of the kingdom of Gampola and ancient temples whose walls are still covered with intricate murals are worth visiting.

The Weir House is located on a 10-acre coffee and spice estate. The Raja Ella stream flows at the edge of our property as it winds its way downstream to merge with Sri Lanka’s longest river – the Mahaweli.

The five bedroom house is designed to be a home away from home – a mix of quiet luxury and comfort. French windows open out to sweeping views of treetops and gardens filled with tropical foliage. Here, you enjoy the best of both worlds: the seclusion of being off the beaten track, yet within easy reach of Sri Lanka’s cultural treasures, scenic trails, and historic sites.
Meals are an experience in themselves, prepared by our two resident chefs who delight in turning fresh produce, estate-grown spices, and seasonal flavors into memorable, multi-sensory dishes.

The Weir House is a wonderful base from which to explore the “hill country”. Popular destinations such as Kandy, Ambuluwawa, Kitulgala and Adam’s Peak are just an hour away, Nuwara Eliya is easy to reach as a full day excursion and we are en-route for travellers heading to Ella by train.

Secluded haven of bamboo
books, and stillness

Tucked away from the rest of the house, Pepper is a cosy retreat designed for quiet seclusion. A private verandah opens onto the garden with easy access to the pool, while a graceful clump of bamboo ensures a sense of privacy. A large swing invites unhurried moments — the perfect spot to lose yourself in a book or simply drift into the rhythm of the surrounding view.

Where verandah views meet evening gatherings within

With doors that open onto the main verandah, Cinnamon offers tranquil views of clove and local olive trees. The room also connects to the living room, creating a seamless flow of space. Guests can linger here long into the evening — playing board games from our collection or watching a late-night film after the house has fallen quiet.

Where warm tones meet timeless natural guardians

Bathed in warm tones of yellow and accented with Sri Lankan cane, Saffron is a room that exudes both charm and calm. French doors open onto the verandah, where our cherished avocado tree  a timeless guardian we inherited with the property — stands gracefully at its edge.

Serene hillside views and tea-scented moments

Set at the far end of the house, Clove opens to serene views of towering trees and the hillside beyond. A private sitting area offers the perfect corner to savour a cup of Sri Lankan tea or coffee, while easy access to the outdoor dining space invites you to unwind beneath a flower-draped pergola.

Where family comfort meets hillside horizons

Designed for families or small groups of friends, Coffee offers comfort and space with two king-sized beds and a private TV lounge. Set on a different level of the house, the room looks out across the tree canopy and surrounding hillside, allowing guests to experience the beauty of nature from a unique vantage point.

What our clients say

Real experiences from people like you

“Best customer experience in a great and beautiful place

We spend 3 days at the Weir house and Maha and his team had been very careful and nice allowing us to spend the best stay. The hotel is very well decorated, the cooking chef is incredible as all the meals were delicious with the great taste of Sri Lanka. Lastly, thanks to the support of Dushi, we discovered the countryside.”

- Wellody, France

“An outstanding experience

My wife and I had an exceptional experience at The Weir House. During our 3-night stay, the manager, Maha, truly went above and beyond to make us feel at home. He was always available, incredibly helpful, and warmly welcoming. Dusi, our waiter, was equally outstanding—polite, proactive, and undoubtedly one of the most professional waiters I’ve encountered.

The hotel is the perfect spot to disconnect and relax, nestled in the middle of nature. Its serene and isolated location adds to the charm, making it an ideal getaway for anyone seeking peace and tranquility.”
